Night time hair care routine for women wearing hair extensions by SL Raw Virgin Hair

The Best Way to Care for Your Hair Extensions at Night

If you're like most women, you probably love your hair extensions! They make your hair look thicker, longer, and more voluminous.

But if you're not careful, they can also be a pain to take care of. One of the biggest problems is keeping them from getting tangled or matted during sleep.

In this blog post, we will teach you how to care for your hair extensions at night using a satin hair bonnet!

Caring for your hair extensions overnight is an effortless process that pays off. When done correctly, you can ensure they remain in perfect condition as long as possible.

And the best part?

You will wake up with soft and tangle-free locks without any damage to your extensions!

We have put together a few helpful tips depending on the type of extensions and its length.

The essential tools for preserving your hair extensions at night:

How to sleep in your sew in extensions

This process helps your install last long. So, if your sew install method is intended for the wefts to stay in place for several months, then you should have a simple and effective process to keep it maintained overnight.

Start by detangling your hair extensions with a detangle brush or wide tooth comb. You can also add a bit of leave-in to smooth out the hair and add a bit of moisture. But remember not to overuse hair products as this will make your hair oily and sticky.

Pull your hair extensions back into a ponytail or bun and secure it with a hair tie. Then tie down the perimeter of your install with a satin or silk scarf.

Finally, cover your extensions with a satin bonnet. You can use a hairpin to hold the satin scarf in place with your silk scarf.

You can also sleep with the hair in the bun or ponytail without the satin bonnet once you’re sleeping on a silk pillowcase. If you don’t have a satin/silk pillowcase, then we recommend using the bonnet.

For long, straight natural hair extensions:

Keeping your hair secure at night to preserve your hair extensions can follow the same method some of us used for relaxed hair care at night.

Option 1. Wrap your hair using a comb and a brush. Then cover with your satin/silk scarf and sleep on a silk pillowcase. It's true, with practice you can train your hair extensions to be wrapped. Keep in mind you may have to be patience with this technique, as with a fresh install the hair wrap may easily fall, but within a week of training you'll be wrapping your hair extensions in no time.

Option 2. Do two twist braids, one on either side of the head. Then catch the ends up into a ponytail/bun. Use a headband or a scarf to lay down the edges. Then cover with your satin/silk bonnet and sleep on a silk pillowcase. This process is great for those wearing hair from the SL Raw Kinky Curly Collection or the SL Raw Deep Curly Collection.

This process keeps your hair from frizzing, tangles, and drying out at night, as can happen with cotton pillowcases.

Remove and store hair extensions before bed

For certain hair extensions like clips-ins and some wigs, it’s best to take them out/off before going to bed. This is the best preservation method to ensure you keep these extensions secure.

Wearing your clip-ins to bed can lead to tangling and which can damage your hair and your extensions. Removing them allows you to store the hair flat and ready for use the next day. And since installing a clip-in isn’t a time-consuming task, this is something you can easily do in the morning.

For wigs, you can store them on a wig head, or a wig stand if you’re going to be putting it on in the morning.

SL Raw Tips:

Don’t sleep with wet hair extensions. This is a road to severe knots and tangles, even with high quality RAW natural hair extensions.

Now that you know how to preserve your hair extensions at night, there’s no need to worry about keeping your lovely tresses intact and ready to slay the next day.
